One day that we had to play recorder I hid it up the leg of my trousers and in my sock. I said I had forgotten my recorder so I was told to complete an exercise from the green box. As I made my way to the green box the recorder fell out in front of the entire class.

dont mean to put you down.... but i can promis the bagpipe version of fingering is a wee bit differnt than ur saxaphone, you got orgimention and crap, and theres no real room for mistakes. then you gotta build up ur lung muscles just a bit more than saxiphone lungs. but ur lips should be nice and strong, that will help alot. and considering you know how to read music. and beats etc.

I can play the saxophone but want to learn pipes its easy to play pipes for me since I'm used to the fingerings I played sax in high school, and fighting the old fingerings has been one of the hardest things to do while trying to learn the pipes. Every time I get "pushed" to play faster, or start sight reading - the fingers revert to sax fingering and drive me nuts ! It is getting better though.

rather than focusing on playing the tune 'faster' focus on the beat (beet?). getting the ordimentation correct
speed kills.
if u can play it right on the beat your teacher should like that more than speed

You sound like my teacher, and instructor, and my PM ! I am the only one pushing for speed, but not too much. I understand the need to get the rudaments down perfectly before worrying about speed, but sometimes I want to see if I can get <close> to performance speed... Thanks for the advice rick Perfect practice makes perfect

Throughout school I played the trumpet and baritone. My Grandfather taught me how to play a 2 tiered "church" organ (yup, foot pedals and all). I have a keyboard that I'm struggling with and I want a set of ceilidh pipes. The GH pipes have been the most challenging and most rewarding....

I play trad music (English, Irish, Scots) on the fiddle. The pipes are still my main instrument, but taking only them to a pub session would mean I didn't get to play very much ...

I can play a radio.
Actually, I had quite a bit of vocal training back when the earth was cooling. I sing bass and was part of a group who called ourselves The Madrigal Singers. We performed thirteenth to sixteenth century chamber music. All a capella and most in latin. Some in italian and a bit in english.
Then I got married, got a factory job and haven't picked up a piece of music in almost ten years. I'm having to virtually learn to read it all over again. My wife, however, plays piano, oboe and baritone.
