If you don't know what it is, why do you want to play it?
Piobaireachd is the original "classical" form of pipe music. Originally taught orally before the invention of written pipe music notation, (the cantaireachd), it consists of a theme (the urlar) which is repeated with progressively more complex and difficult embellishments, finally returning to the unembellished urlar.
An "MSR" is a competition set of (relatively) contemporary "light" music; a March, a Strathsbey, and a Reel. Other than being played on the same instrument, there are absolutely no similarities at all between the two.
A Google search on the keyword "piobaireachd" should answer your questions in as much detail as you require.

IMHO, you need to hear piobaireachd played live to really "get it". I thought it was boring until I heard someone playing at a workshop, and it is truly mesmerising (sp?). You might check out the Piobaireachd Society at www.piobaireachd.co.uk/

Rick's right, definitely hear it live. Unless you get a very good recording and have a very good sound system you won't hear the pibroch well.
That will sound odd to anyone who likes listening to recorded 'light music', but pibroch depends heavily on the rich tones of the pipes and notes dropping below and above the tones of the drones. When you hear it properly it's great, when it's just slightly out, you just won't get it.
Or maybe it's just my stereo and speakers are rubbish.

The best piobroch I've heard is track 5 on Gordon Duncan's 'Thunderstruck' album!!
I've heard tons of people try & explain to me how you should listen to it, but I still don't get it!! I actually remember when I was first taught one, the tutor had said to me you should play it how you feel it!! So I tried this and was shot down & told to play it his way!
Not my cup of tea at all - but that may be because I'm just a young pup???!!!!

Most people say 'pea brock', but that's an anglicisation - probably as close as you'll get if you can't pronounce gaelic, though.
