I have a band called Diabolis In Musica, which features many different authentic Medieval music instruments, including Medieval Bagpipes. The band has done fairly well at renaissance festivals and other gigs, and We're essentially keeping it the same.
I am starting a new band that will be a companion band -- performing gigs that my other band can't meet, or filling in alternate weekends on long-running shows where the other band cannot make the full commitment.
The new band will be exclusively reed instruments, and feature medieval bagpipes, shawms, rauschpfeifes, and other instruments that members bring into it. The music will be exclusively medieval folk music, played in 2 and 3 part harmonies that are rarely heard on bagpipes. There will be no highland pipes or highland music. However, Highland pipers are welcome if the musician can get a set of Medieval pipes, or reed instrument that is compatible with the genre. All that is required is a desire to make some new music out of 500-1000 year-old tunes, in a way that American Audiences haven't really seen much of.
We are exclusively a Massachusetts band based in Boston. I have contacts with several Medieval Bagpipe makers, as well as access to audio and some sheet music of the music we will play. Medieval music is much simpler to play than Highland, and can be learned by even a novice piper in a short time. Some of the harmonies may require some experimentation, or different instruments. Your exposure to authentic medieval and renaissance instruments is guaranteed, and if you are interested in the wild, alternative sound that we produce, we'd love to have you become part of the only medieval bagpipe band in Boston.
To hear exapmples of the music and instruments and style we are trying to emulate, see these videos:

As I said -- It's in the Boston, MA area. If you have no problem traveling to and from the Boston Metro area on a weekly basis, we'd definitely like to hear from you.
Thanks!
